WORLD GIN DAY
On Saturday, June 10th it is WORLD GIN DAY. This unofficial celebration was born nine years ago thanks to a Brittish Blogger called Neil Houston, and it has become a world phenomenon.
This event takes place every year on the second Saturday of June so that we can enjoy it for the whole weekend.
But, what do we know about Gin? 987Gin wants to celebrate this date by telling you some interesting facts about your favourite drink.
1- It has a medicinal origin. Like many drinks, Gin is thought to have been used therapeutically. This drink comes from a mix of ethyl alcohol and berries to improve the kidney function and digestion.
2- There was a fashion for Gin back in 18th century. The workers in London were very keen on our drink. Even some workers had a part of their salary paid in Gin.
3- The Balearic Islands, pioneers in Spain. Back in 1708, the British disembarked in Menorca. They established there and had the first shipments of Gin sent to the islands.
4- The Dry Law. During the Dry Law in EEUU, Gin became the most popular drink. Many cocktails considered today as classics were born in secrecy.
